Service Cable
A service cable is an electrical cable that connects power from the utility’s distribution system to a building’s main panel. It is designed to handle high voltage and current loads safely. There are two types: Overhead Service Cable (Service Drop), suspended from utility poles, and Underground Service Cable (Service Lateral), buried for safety and aesthetics. Common types include SE Cable (above-ground), USE Cable (underground), and Triplex & Quadruplex Cables (overhead distribution). Key features include high insulation, weather resistance, heavy load capacity, and availability in aluminium or copper conductors.
A service cable is the electrical cable that connects the main power supply from the utility pole or underground source to a building’s electrical panel. It is designed to handle high voltage and ensure safe electricity transmission.
Conductor Material
- Copper is preferred for its high conductivity, durability, and resistance to corrosion.
 - Aluminium is a cost-effective alternative, lightweight, and commonly used in overhead service cables.

															Characteristics
It consists of solid or stranded aluminium wires as phase and neutral conductor.
Insulation done by Type A/Type C PVC compound.
Phase core has red color PVC insulation and Neutral core has black color pvc insulation.
Outer-sheathing is generally black colored . Outer-sheating is done by ST-1 PVC compound.
Applications
This cable is commonly used for residential and light commercial installations.
