AB Cable
An AB cable (Aerial Bunched Cable) is a type of overhead power cable used for electricity distribution. It consists of multiple insulated conductors bundled together, reducing the risk of power theft, electrical faults, and maintenance issues compared to traditional bare conductors. AB cables are lightweight, easy to install, and resistant to environmental factors like wind, rain, and pollution. They are commonly used in urban and rural electrification projects for safer and more efficient power transmission.

CONFIGURATION
Single Phase or Three Phase systems with or without Street Light line.
CONDUCTOR
Phase or lighting conductor: Electrical grade Aluminium of H2 or H4 grade as per IS: 8130. Messenger conductor: Aluminium Silicon and Magnesium Alloy.
INSULATION
XLPE
IDENTIFICATION OF PHASE
Ridges provided on the insulation of Phase Conductors: 1 ridge for the 1st phase, 2 ridges for the 2nd phase and 3 ridges for the 3rd phase. The Neutral phase may have 4 ridges if required.
COLOUR OF INSULATION
As the cable remains exposed to environmental elements such as UV rays from sunlight, the insulation is mixed with a small amount of carbon black to prevent the deterioration of polythene.

Advantages
Enhanced Safety – Reduces the risk of electrical hazards and accidental electrocution.
Reduced Power Theft – Prevents illegal tapping compared to traditional open-wire systems.
Lower Maintenance – Requires minimal upkeep due to its insulated design.
Improved Reliability – Less prone to faults, short circuits, and outages.
Easy Installation – Lightweight and simple to install without heavy infrastructure.
Weather Resistance – Withstands harsh environmental conditions like storms and heavy rainfall.
Applications
Urban and Rural Electrification – Used for distributing electricity in cities, villages, and remote areas.
Overhead Power Distribution – Ideal for low and medium voltage overhead power lines.
